Batopilas – A Hidden Treasure in the Sierra Madre
A small town nestled in the Sierra Madre Occidental, perched on the hillside and filled with stories waiting to be told…
The translation of its name, Batopilas, means “river between walls.”
To reach this magical place, you’ll descend along a winding canyon road filled with breathtaking views. Once one of Mexico’s richest silver mining districts during the 17th to 19th centuries, Batopilas still preserves its charm — with old plazas, colonial buildings, stone bridges, a beautiful river, and a 19th-century aqueduct that tells the story of its silver glory days.
The climate here is perfect for lush subtropical vegetation, and the area is ideal for adventure sports such as birdwatching, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
